Tell us about your current release. My current release is The Regan Factor. It’s a bit steamier than other books that have come out under my name. It was originally published under my pseudonym, Elizabeth Jewell. I was publishing m/f erotic romance under that name at the time, but EJ has since moved on to m/m romance almost exclusively, so I thought it would be better to move this title back to KK. As a result, I’ve toned it down a bit from the previously published version, but not that much. There were a few scenes that, on retrospect, I really didn’t care for.
Do you use a pen name? If so, how did you come up with it? As mentioned above, I do use a pen name. Elizabeth Jewell comes from my family tree. There are a good many Elizabeths in my family, and the Jewells are ancestors who were thrown out of England by the king back in I believe the 17th or 18th century. They were rowdy Welsh folk, apparently. I didn’t realize until after I chose the pseudonym that there is another Elizabeth Jewell in the writing world. She writes crossword dictionaries and historical non-fiction. I hope she doesn’t hate me…
Plotter or Pantser? Why? Often a combination of the above. I find that if I go with a detailed outline, things change as I write, so I usually end up pantsing for a while until I can redo the outline. If I go straight with the pantser approach right from the beginning, I invariably bog down after a few chapters and have to stop and outline. So I’m usually best off going back and forth between the two approaches as needed to satisfy my muse.
Do you listen to music while writing? If so what? Almost always. I have pretty eclectic taste in music, but I most often listen to alt rock, folk rock or stuff that can’t really be easily categorized. Most of it is music people my age aren’t “supposed” to listen to, though.
What are your favorite TV shows? Current favorites are Supernatural, Leverage and Burn Notice. Past favorites include Buffy, Angel, The X-Files, and Quantum Leap. I’m a bit of a TV junkie, to be honest. Lately I find that it’s easier for me to DVR shows and watch them in batches, though, instead of adhering to “appointment TV.”
When’s the last time you played that musical instrument? I play fairy regularly-flute and guitar. I also own a ukulele that I’m learning to play, and I’ve dabbled with a variety of other instruments. Music is a long-time love and hobby for me.
What songs are most played on your iPod?
The songs that have been getting the most play time for the last year or so are from an unsigned band out of Chicago. They’re called Empires, and they are fantastic. To the point that I have flown from Denver to Chicago to see them more than once. Check them out at weareempires.com.
